Dislocations in Sodium-Chloride Crystals
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Distributions of dislocations in sodium chloride crystals, which were induced by heat treatment or working, were investigated, using a newly developed etchant. The crystals, which were annealed above 3 0 0 ° C , showed reduced dislocation densities and rearranged dislocation patterns. By raising the temperature to 600 ° C or 700 ° C many elongated subboundaries or subboundaries arranged in the ( l lO)-orientation were newly formed. The effect of annealing time on the dislocation rearrangement was small. New dislocations were easily induced by stress. The samples, annealed at 6 0 0 ° C after pressing, showed many enclosed subboundaries (polygonizations).

Corner Ion, Edge-center Ion, and Face-center Ion Madelung Expressions for Sodium Chloride
Building on work of Tyagi (2005), we present expressions for calculating the corner ion, edge-center ion, and face-center ion Madelung constants for bulk sodium chloride crystals. In [1], Crandall gives a historical overview of attempts to evaluate the Madelung constant for bulk ionic crystals. For sodium chloride he gave an expression for this in terms of the following series.
متن کاملAdditive Enhanced Creeping of Sodium Chloride Crystals
This article investigates the mechanism behind the creeping of sodium chloride induced by additives. Here, an experimental approach is complemented with theoretical considerations to describe how creeping patterns of brine evolve and how the introduction of additives into the solution affects the morphology of the resultant crystals. We have found that these additives cause kinetic roughening a...
متن کاملDamage in porous media due to salt crystallization.
We investigate the origins of salt damage in sandstones for the two most common salts: sodium chloride and sulfate. The results show that the observed difference in damage between the two salts is directly related to the kinetics of crystallization and the interfacial properties of the salt solutions and crystals with respect to the stone. We show that, for sodium sulfate, the existence of hydr...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Acetic Acid and Strontium Chloride Procedures for Extraction of Hemin
Abstract Background and objectives: Hemin is a porphyrin compound derived from hemoglobin, the precursor of other porphyrin hemoglobin derivatives and the raw material of Hematin. Since hemin is widely used in medicine, we decided primarily to synthesize this substance in Laboratory and to determine the best way of hemin extraction from untransfused and expired blood units. Materials and Method...
